Lavazza Tablì – The Future of Coffee Without Capsules

With Lavazza Tablì, the Italian brand presents an exciting innovation: a coffee system that works entirely without capsules. Instead of aluminum or plastic, Tablì uses pressed coffee tabs made from 100% coffee. Under the motto “The future of coffee is 100% coffee”, Lavazza aims to combine sustainability, simplicity, and enjoyment.

What is Lavazza Tablì?

Tablì is a new single-serve system in which the coffee is inserted into the machine in the form of tabs. The tabs consist exclusively of ground and pressed coffee that retains its shape thanks to a special technology. This results in an espresso with full aroma and rich crema – without foil, plastic, or aluminum.

The Tabs – 100% Coffee, Zero Packaging

The tabs are not only sustainable but also practical:

  • No packaging waste: The tabs come without any coating.
  • Intense flavor: The pressing process preserves aroma and consistency.
  • Eco-friendly disposal: After use, the tabs can be disposed of in organic waste or compost, just like 44mm ESE coffee pods.

World Premiere or Competitor to CoffeeB?

Lavazza promotes Tablì as a world premiere. However, a similar concept already exists: CoffeeB, launched in 2022 by Migros (Caffè Royal). There, so-called “Coffee Balls” are used, also made of pressed coffee. A possible reason for Lavazza’s launch of Tablì could be the cooperation between CoffeeB and Illy – one of Lavazza’s biggest competitors. With Tablì, Lavazza aims to respond to this competition and strengthen its market position.

Availability and Target Audience

Tablì will first launch in Italy via lavazza.it. When the system will be available in Switzerland remains unclear. According to information from April 2025, a machine is planned primarily for home use, with a similar capacity as the Amodo Mio Jolie coffee machine. Whether models for offices or gastronomy will follow remains to be seen.

Hygiene Challenge

One recurring criticism of CoffeeB has been hygiene: the Coffee Balls are often stored in open containers and can therefore be touched by many people in offices or communal spaces.

How Lavazza will address this issue with Tablì is not yet known. However, in some videos it is already shown that the developers have thought about it: the tabs can be picked up with a small wooden tweezer to better meet hygiene standards. Especially for use in the self-service coffee business sector, such a solution could be decisive.

In Conclusion: Does Tablì Have the Potential to Be a Gamechanger?

With Tablì, Lavazza introduces a system that makes enjoying coffee without capsules possible. Even if the idea is not entirely new, Lavazza could, thanks to its strong brand, international distribution network, and technological know-how, pave the way for the breakthrough of such sustainable systems. Whether Tablì can move from private use into the business world – and how the hygiene issue will be solved – remains to be seen. What is certain: sustainability and coffee without capsules are the future.
