The May 2025 Price Round – Italy Affected for the First Time

In May 2025, Lavazza raised its prices across Europe. What made it unusual: it affected not only importers outside Italy – including us in Switzerland – but for the first time the Italian home market as well. While Italian retailers and consumers had benefited from special conditions for years, a uniform price structure has applied ever since, regardless of location.

Why Coffee Has Become More Expensive in General

The causes lie not with a single manufacturer but in the commodity market: weather-related crop failures, volatile Arabica and Robusta prices, higher transport and energy costs, currency fluctuations and geopolitical factors such as import tariffs.
